Pevely, MO (July 19th, 2014) Fans in attendance at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 got their money's worth as they witnessed some great racing action in all four divisions.
Randy Korte of Highland, Illinois brought home the victory in the UMP DIRTcar Late Model division. Korte and Bobby Pierce had a great battle going for the lead until lap thirteen when Pierce suffered a right rear flat tire. It appeared Korte would run away with the feature after the restart while Michael Kloos and Tim Manville battled side by side for the second spot. However, Kloos would finally break free from Manville and proceeded to reel in Korte in lapped traffic. Kloos would get within a couple of car lengths at the end but Korte would hang on for the win. Meanwhile, Pierce got the fans excited as he charged through the field after changing his flat tire. Pierce used the high side and picked off car after car each lap and worked his way all the way back to a third place finish as he edged Manville by a nose at the line. Manville would finish fourth with Jeff Herzog taking fifth.
In the UMP DIRTcar Modified division, the wiley old veteran Mark Miner brought home his first victory of 2014. Miner kept his car out front all twenty laps, but had Ray Walsh and Jim Black challenging him the entire way. Meanwhile, Rusty Griffaw had the fans on their feet as he charged all the way from the eighteenth starting spot to battle with the leaders. Griffaw, who broke a water pump on his engine in his heat race, went back to his house and got his other car and started at the rear of the field and was passing cars high and low as he charged towards the front of the field. It would be Ray Walsh that would finish second to Miner, then Griffaw would edge Black for the third spot with Cody Conner finishing fifth behind Black.
Troy Medley led fourteen and a half laps of the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman feature event. Unfortunately for him, Trey Harris led the final half lap and took the win. Medley paced the field using the bottom of the track and Harris decided with two laps to go to move up and use the big cushion on the high side and it paid off as he zipped past Medley down the back stretch on the final lap. Chris Soutiea battled with Mark Todd for much of the race for the third spot and was able to come away with a third place finish with Todd taking fourth. Matt Brucato rounded out the top five.
Travis Bittle held off Rickey Carriker and Robert Price to take the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock feature win.
